Tonight kicks off the Elite 8 round of the GHSA playoffs. Teams will compete for a chance to play in the Final 4 and get one step closer to their ultimate goal of a state title. Here are a few matchups that the Ryze Staff has highlighted.
Alexander vs Decatur: Decatur has shown a lot of grit and resilience thus far in their post-season run, with a nail-biting home win in the opening round vs Milton followed by a tough road win at Winder-Barrow but they'll need to dig deeper as they head to Douglasville to face Alexander HS. The Cougars are winners of 21 games in a row, are deep and talented, and boast an electric home crowd. The forward matchup between Tobias Brinkley (Tulane-bound) and Marquis Leslie (Charleston Southern-bound) should be a good one.
St. Pius vs North Oconee: #1 St. Pius X is undefeated and have won each of their post-season games by 29.6 points, dating back to the region tournament. #2 North Oconee has a tall task ahead of them if they want to secure a road victory and a trip to the Final 4. In a 24-point home win Golden Lions guard, Harris Reynolds, scored 38 points while Titans lead guard, Justin Wise, recorded 30 points in a tough-fought home win. The two should provide a show for the fans.
The Walker School vs North Cobb Christian: In the Sweet 16, The Walker School showed resilience as they battled back from an 11-point deficit to force double-overtime and gut out a road win. The Wolverines are balanced and execute their game plans with efficiency. The trio of Isaiah Chandler, Zay Butler, and Grant Robich have scored in double-figures in each of their state playoff outings for the Eagles. If TWS wants to continue their run, they'll need to keep those three under control.
