Every Thursday, we will take a look at the hoops landscape for the week and give our three takes on things that catch our eyes. These topics can range from any and all aspects of the game and are designed to open things up to conversation. This is the Ryze Thursday Triple Take. This week marks the start of Christmas & Holiday Tournaments, and we will be giving you three things that we are looking at over the course of the week & weekend:
Lemon Street Classic Unsigned Seniors
Holiday tournaments are a great time for unsigned players to leave a mark on college coaches that could potentially be watching, both in person and online. There are a few guys that will be competing at the Lemon Street Classic at Marietta that we think could make their mark. Grovetown guard Zach Bell earned his first Division I offer from TCU, which should put a heavier focus on his play in the next week. The 6-foot-1 combo guard is one of the best athletes that we have available in Georgia's 2021 class. Another highly recruitable guard is Discovery's Ian Davis. We saw Davis shoot the lights out and play with a hard motor all travel season with AC Georgia and he could be a player LM schools will want to take a look at. He currently holds D2 offers, including an offer from Columbus State. Evans guard/wing Rashad King is one of the most interesting and versatile upperclassmen at the event. He does a little bit of everything and can be a matchup problem as a 6-foot-5 combo guard.
Best Weekend Matchup?
There are a number of really good player matchups, but there is one that really sticks out at Playing for a Change on Monday night as North Gwinnett is set to take on Pace Academy between Florida State signee Matthew Cleveland and North Gwinnett star 2022 wing RJ Godfrey. Both of these guys play hard, are highly physical, and will be ready for battle in this one. Expect a really good back and forth between these two, as both guys have been playing at a really high level this season.
AAAAAAA State Title Rematch
On Monday at Pace Academy, we will get a rematch of the 2020 AAAAAAA state championship game. While this game will look considerably different and have new faces and names in the mix and the two are no longer in the same classification, don't think that each of these programs won't be extra motivated to send a statement. While the likes of Sam Hines, Deivon Smith, Caleb Murphy, and Toneari Lane are gone, this one will have plenty of star power with Wheeler's Kaleb Washington (Dayton signee), Jaheim Hudson (FGCU signee), & 2023 guard Isaiah Collier and Grayson's Ian Schieffelin (Clemson signee), Taje Kelly (Charleston Southern signee), 2022 guards Tyrese Elliott & Robert Cowherd, and 2022 big man Chauncey Wiggins.
