Grayson vs. Pebblebrook
In a game loaded with Division I prospects, both teams are coming off blowout wins in the first round. While the guards and wings feature incredible matchups with the likes of Deivon Smith, Caleb Murphy, & Toneari Lane against Danny Stubbs, Kaleb Washington, and Tyler Shirley, Grayson could hold an advantage in the paint with big man Ian Schieffelin, who has come on strong for the Rams this season. If Pebblebrook can somehow contain that interior presence, look for this one to come down to the wire.
Langston Hughes vs. Valdosta
Langston Hughes will take the three-and-a-half hour journey down I-75 to take on Valdosta and the high-scoring Wildcat backcourt that features Ricky Brown and Allin Floyd. The duo combined for 33 points in an opening round win over Grovetown, and they will need similar output against a very good Langston Hughes backcourt featuring PJ Carter and Kasen Jennings.
Laney vs. Therrell
Two programs who have had a reputation for winning over the past few years, this one should be a hard-nosed grinder of a game between two really tough teams. Both teams are coming off blowout wins in the first round, and recent Georgia hoop historians know that Laney teams love to come to Atlanta to make statements. A win here will have to be earned, however, against the defending AA state champion Panthers, who have career winners like Roman Son and Rasean Frederick.
Shiloh vs. Wheeler
Wheeler and Shiloh have become mainstays in the depths of the AAAAAAA State Tournament brackets as two programs with great success over the past decade and beyond. This one should live up to the billing that programs of this caliber can provide. Wheeler will look for Sam Hines and Jaheim Hudson to carry a big load against the Generals, who will counter with a ton of toughness as they usually do. That toughness will be epitomized by senior guard Caleb Golden, who is playing with a broken nose and led Shiloh in scoring in their first round win over Peachtree Ridge.
Chattahoochee vs. Heritage
One of Georgia’s hottest teams, Chattahoochee, is set to do battle with one of Georgia’s hottest prospects, Heritage’s James White. Both teams are coming off nail-biting victories and should expect more of the same from this one. Rice signee Cam Sheffield and senior guard Franklin Bailey combined for 45 in a win over Alexander, while AJ White (Pictured) notched a double-double. They will look to slow down James White, who tallied 31 points in a first round win over Lee County.
Kell vs. Warner Robins
The best first round performance in Georgia came from Kell’s five-star sophomore guard Scoot Henderson, who poured in 49 points in a huge comeback win over Miller Grove. Warner Robins survived a tough game against Jonesboro, and were led by Quon Dillard who had a great performance of his own, coming up huge with 28 points in the win. Look for a really good matchup of guards in this one between Kell’s Henderson and Warner Robins’ Keshun Houser.
