Peach State Weekend Preview: February 3-4

February 3rd

Newton vs. Archer

Yet another great game in Region 4-7A, this one is loaded with guards. Newton has great pieces in the backcourt with Stephon Castle, Marcus Whitlock, Bez Jenkins, & Ashton Pennamon. They will take on a great Archer backcourt that features Kahmare Holmes, Darrian Joseph, and Elijah Davis.

Wheeler vs. Walton

This should be one of the best atmospheres on the night in an East Cobb rivalry that has seen plenty of great games over the years. Wheeler has the talent to overcome an intense crowd with great seniors Isaiah Collier, Arrinten Page, and Jelani Hamilton. Walton can shoot the lights out, so if they can hit shots they can give the Wildcats a scare.

Calhoun vs. Hiram

Hiram has been one of the better stories on the year and could be poised for a deep postseason run as well. They are led by Lincoln Memorial commit Jay Boyd as well as point guard Amir Taylor and football stars Chase Tyler and Walter Matthews. Calhoun forward & Lipscomb commit Dylan Faulkner has had a monster season and is always a tough cover.

Marist vs. St. Pius X

Two of the most well coached teams that execute at a high level meet tonight in a private school rivalry game. St. Pius X is led by Tulane commit Spencer Elliott and Hampden Sydney commit Blake Wilson and they always bring a ton of energy. Marist has a good PG as well in Jessie Gaynes as well as a tough surrounding cast. This one should be fun.

Mt. Bethel vs. Mt. Vernon

Another great matchup between solid private school programs. Mt. Bethel is enjoying a very good season at 17-5 led by seniors James White & Jackson Bell as well as junior Will Kuimjian. Mount Vernon is battle tested with a very tough non-region schedule and have a ton of size in the frontcourt with Xavier Shegog, Dennis Scott III, and Keith Williams.

February 4th

Christian Heritage vs. Greenforest

These two teams might be the best two teams in A-Divsion II. Christian Heritage is still unbeaten on the season at 20-0 and feature Jax Abernathy and a sleeper in Georgia's 2025 class Dontae Crowder. They will face one of their toughest tests on the year with the size of Greenforest in the backcourt combined with their playmaking ability in the backcourt.

Etowah vs. Sandy Creek

Very good non-region game in Cherokee County on Saturday. Etowah sits atop Region 6-6A at 9-1 & have won 8 of their last 9 games. Virginia Tech commit Brandon Rechsteiner will lead a great offensive unit that can really score from the perimeter. Sandy Creek is 17-5 on the season & unbeaten in their region led by junior forward Micah Smith who has the ability to make incredible plays.

Columbia vs. Tucker

Two of DeKalb County's best teams will face each other in a non-region matchup. Tucker is having a great season at 9-0 in Region 4-5A led by Josiah Lawson & Christopher Whitmore. Columbia is 22-1 on the season and 13-0 in Region 5-2A. They play tough, they play fast, and they have a great group of upperclassmen in both the frontcourt and backcourt.

Putnam County vs. Thomson

Both Divisions of Region 4-2A feature some very talented teams, including both of these two, who will face off in a terrific guard matchup on Saturday. Putnam County duo Eren Banks & Landon Bonner have been very dynamic this season, both averaging around the 20-point mark. Thomson also has a great backcourt with Lavonta Ivery and Jahkiaus Jones.
