GHSA Weekly Preview - Dec. 7

As with every week during the high school season in Georgia, there are some really good matchups during the week followed by some top-notch events on Saturday. We got you covered with all you need to know on the top games and events for the upcoming week.

Games of the Week

St. Francis at Mt. Pisgah, Tuesday at 6:30 PM

Two of the top teams in single A meet for an early region matchup. Team Dickerson teammates Jusaun Holt (St. Francis) and Jojo Peterson (Mt. Pisgah) are the headliners in this rivalry game, but both have plenty of help around them to make for an entertaining Tuesday night in Johns Creek.

Newton at Heritage (Conyers), Tuesday at 7:00 PM

The high-scoring backcourt duo of Ole Miss signee James White and Elon signee RJ Noord welcome a really talented Newton team led by sophomore guard Stephon Castle into their building for what would be a packed-out arena east of Atlanta if we weren’t in a worldwide pandemic.

Archer at Berkmar, Tuesday at 7:30 PM

A scrappy Archer team makes the short trip over for a tough region matchup with a really talented and battle tested Berkmar team led by star junior forward Malique Ewin.

Sequoyah at River Ridge, Tuesday at 7:30 PM

A talented Sequoyah team led by junior guard Dylan Wolle is looking for its first win on Tuesday night against neighborhood and region rival River Ridge. 6-foot-10 junior center Braden Pierce is one to watch for River Ridge after showing a ton of improvement during the travel season with Georgia Legacy.

Jonesboro at Forest Park, Tuesday at 7:30 PM

Both teams enter this matchup on the southside of Atlanta with a 4-0 record and looking for an early leg up in the region standings with a win on Tuesday night. Forest Park junior forward Daniel Pounds is one of the more intriguing prospects in Georgia’s 2022 class and off to a good start this season.

Shiloh at Discovery, Tuesday at 7:30 PM

Discovery (4-1) is off to an impressive start to the season over in Gwinnett County, but face a big test at home on Tuesday as they look to give Shiloh (4-0) its first loss of the season.

Wheeler at South Cobb, Friday at 7:30 PM

Two of the top programs in Cobb County meet up for the first time as region rivals on Friday night in what should be one of the more fast-paced, scrappy and physical games of the week. Unsigned senior guard Travis Burrus has been terrific for South Cobb so far this season after a great travel season with Team Huncho, while Wheeler’s senior duo of Kaleb Washington and Ja’Heim Hudson give Wheeler a chance at cutting down the nets again in March. Wheeler sophomore point guard Isaiah Collier will be a good matchup with Burrus as Collier projects to be one of the most highly recruited guards nationally in the 2023 class.

Forest Park at Newton, Saturday at 5:30

These are clearly two teams that aren’t ducking top competition outside of region play. After both playing in tough games early in the week, Forest Park will travel out east of Atlanta to Newton for what should be a really good game on Saturday evening.
