GHSA State Playoffs 7A Superlatives

Best First Round Matchup

Norcross vs. West Forsyth

While it was a down season by Norcross standards, the Blue Devils ended the season winning five of their last six. Senior guard Toby Ojukwu and senior forward Casey Williams along with sophomore wing Jaron Saulsberry were all-region selections and will be a very tough out in the postseason. West Forsyth has a senior-led team with tons of experience. Marshall commit Will Moore along with seniors Sam Maynard and Chase Damerell provide a ton of production for the Wolverines along with size and athletic ability.

Camden County vs. Archer

Region 4-7A was always going to provide a really good matchup with the depth of the region. Archer has been one of the best teams in the classification all season, led by their backcourt of Wofford commit Kahmare Holmes and Darrian Joseph. They make the trip down to the coast to match up with Camden County, led by big man & Georgia football commit Elyiss Williams, whose size and athletic ability is very tough to match up with.

Best Player Matchup

Josh Dixon (Milton) vs. Caleb Jones-Dix (North Gwinnett)

We've seen both of these guys fill it up this season. Dixon was the Region 6-7A POY and ended the season on a very high note, scoring the ball very well down the stretch and helping Milton to the region title, playing their best basketball of the season. UAPB commit Jones-Dix was the co-POY in Region 7-7A and has shown this season that he has the ability to take over games with his shooting and playmaking.

Not To Look Forward But...

It's hard not to look at the bottom right quadrant of this bracket, which is loaded. A potential second round matchup between McEachern and Newton would be a must-see game along with a mixture of any of the other four teams, Norcross, West Forsyth, Osborne, and Buford. However this section of the bracket shakes out will be a lot of fun.

Biggest Storyline

Is this finally the year for Grayson? Geoffrey Pierce has turned the Rams program into one of the state's powerhouses over the past few years, but one thing remains missing: a state title. They've come close on a few occasions, but this year they have their sites on getting to Macon and lifting some hardware. The backcourt is all senior-led with Division I commits in Gicarri Harris (Purdue), CJ Hyland (Western Carolina), and Ant Alston (App State) and the frontcourt is loaded as well with Jake Wilkins, Amir Taylor, and Ahmad Clark.

Sleeper That Could Make Noise

The bracket lines up very well for Valdosta. While they could have to potentially make the trip up to Atlanta in the second round, they have the size in the frontcourt with 6-foot-10 center Israel Jenrette along with a very good backcourt led by Jabarri Williams and Eric Love.

Hi My Name Is...

Despite winning their region, Peachtree Ridge has flown under the radar in 7A this season. Junior guard Connor Teasley is a very good playmaker and scorer and earned co-POY honors in region 7-7A. Junior big man Derwin Hodge was the Defensive POY in the region and can be a big factor in the paint with his finishing ability and rim protection.
