GHSA State Playoffs 3A, 2A, & 1A Superlatives

Best First Round Matchup

Providence Christian vs. Columbia

Two of the better teams in 2A this season match up in the first round. Tahmarr Mann & Trevian Callway have been a great duo this season for Columbia and have helped lead the Eagles to a 24-3 record. On the other side, Providence has been led by senior PG Sam Thacker who has out up some huge numbers this season and is one of the better unsigned guards in the state.

Best Player Matchup

Blake Wilson (Hebron Christian) vs. Manny Green (Cedar Grove)

This one should be a lot of fun to watch. Both guys have elite physical tools and athleticism and both have had great seasons. Wilson is one of the better unsigned players in the state and can score the ball on the interior and perimeter and is a very high level rebounder. Green is one of the best players in Georgia's 2026 class and is a do-it-all guy for the Saints.

Not To Look Forward But...

A second round matchup in 3A between Cross Creek and Johnson Savannah would be a very good one with both programs enjoying a ton of success over the past few years. Cross Creek junior forward Jaden Priester is a guy that could make his mark on this postseason. On the other side, Joshua Quarterman has been a big time scorer all year for the Atomsmashers.

Biggest Storyline

Last year's state champions have solid chances at repeating. Sandy Creek should be the odds on favorite in 3A and have been one of the best teams in the state all year led by Micah Smith and Amari Brown. In 2A, Westside Augusta won 23 games and has one of the best backcourts in the state with Demarco Middleton and Lavonta Ivery.

Sleeper That Could Make Noise

Pickens could be an interesting team to watch in 3A. Head coach Bob Martin won a state title last season at King's Ridge and has the system and pieces to make a run this season with the Dragons. Sophomore guard Purdy McCord and junior wing Parker Davis have been standouts this season and they could help Pickens make some noise in the bracket.

Hi My Name Is...

Cam Cherry, Peach County

The sophomore CG is one of the best young guards in Middle Georgia, and he's had a very good season for Peach County, averaging over 15 points per game. He has good size in the backcourt and has the ability to score it from every level both off the bounce attacking the rim and shooting from three and in the midrange.

Dominic Eason, Toombs County

A lot of people in Atlanta might not even know where Toombs County is, but they have been a force this season in 2A and are a contender to get to Macon. Eason is a big reason why, averaging over 19 points per game on the season. He has elite athletic ability at 6-foot-5 and can make some electrifying plays above the rim. He's a very difficult matchup problem and can make his impact felt on both ends of the floor.
