Notable Games
Jonesboro vs. Alexander
These two teams play a very similar style and have tons of toughness and grit. Jonesboro has also been known to have some great crowds, so expect one of the better environments that we've seen down there since their previous title runs a few years ago. The matchup between Jonesboro's Devon Rainey & Alexander's Braedan Lue should be one to watch here and both backcourts can also pack a huge scoring punch from the perimeter.
Etowah vs. St. Pius X
Offensive execution is the name of the game with these two teams, who are two of the most well coached in the state. Etowah can really fill it up from behind the three point line with Virginia Tech commit Brandon Rechsteiner as well as guys like Mason Etter and Dimitri Angelakos. St. Pius X likes to play a pressure style of defense and they can also hit shots at a high level. Hampden Sydney commit Blake Wilson & Tulane commit Spencer Elliott have had big seasons for the Lions. It's also worth noting here that the X-Dome at St. Pius is one of the best home-court advantages in the state.
Grovetown vs. Lanier
Grovetown continues their journey in search of back to back state titles and are playing as good of basketball as anyone right now, winners of 16 straight. Between Malik Ferguson, Derrion Reid, Frankquon Sherman, & Markel Freeman, they have the firepower to repeat. However, it will not be easy traveling to Sugar Hill to take on Lanier and junior forward Jayce Nathaniel, who has had an enormous season for the Longhorns.
Dutchtown vs. Kell
Let's just call it like it is, Kell has been steamrolling all of their opponents over the past few weeks. Auburn commit Peyton Marshall is extremely difficult to contain on the interior and their guards and wings can be very effective on both ends of the floor. However, Dutchtown is a program that always brings a ton of toughness. Senior guard Jeremiah Edwards is a guy that can make a difference and junior big man Matthew Hinton has the type of size that it will take to try to limit Marshall on the inside.
Sandy Creek vs. Johnson Savannah
This is a game in 3A worthy of being a state championship game between two of Georgia's best teams in the classification. It's very difficult to go to Savannah and pick up a win, and Johnson's high scoring backcourt duo of Antonio Baker and Josh Quarterman will make it that much more difficult. Sandy Creek, however, has the firepower to do so and Micah Smith has the ability to take over games all over the floor.
