Forty-eight teams vying for their spot in Sunday's Battle for Georgia bracket to determine the best team in the Peach got their weekend started tonight. Eight teams remain in each division, with two wins tomorrow punching your ticket to Sunday. Here are a few of my notes from the night:
- The Georgia Stars 2023 group stole the show early in the night. They are led by point guard Chase Clemmons (Pictured), who makes them go. With wings like Ethan Davis and Isaiah West, this team can really play. It wouldn't surprise me to see them playing well into Sunday.
- AC Georgia big man Isaiah Nelson-Ododa's last two outings at LakePoint at Battle for Georgia and LIVE Showcase II have been the best I've seen him play. He continues to make big strides in his game and confidence and the sky is the limit for him. He's shooting the ball at a high level and playing with more tenacity to him. Wonderful sight to see.
- Is AC Georgia guard Mannie Harris the best PG in Georgia's 2021 class? The case can be made. He continues to make those jaw-dropping plays and has the look of a high level collegiate guard. I'll continue to urge high major programs to take a good look here.
- I'll have an eye on the 16U Team HoopDreams team tomorrow. They had an impressive win Friday night behind a great performance from Kedar Bodie.
- There aren't many guards more physically imposing than Atlanta Celtics South guard Jaeden Marshall. He had a very impressive offensive show Friday. We were tipped off that this team could make a run and they showed why they had some buzz coming into the weekend.
- Warner Robins All Stars have been in the Battle for Georgia bracket in the past, and it wouldn't surprise me to see them there again. They play hard, they play fast, and they play without fear. With guys like TJ Grant and Rashaun Tomlin, they are a fun group to watch.
