With the travel season on hold and no opportunity for prospects entering their final year of high school to play in front of college coaches to earn scholarships, LakePoint Hoops wants to put the spotlight on the Class of 2021. Each day over the next few weeks we will be profiling a top prospect in Georgia in hopes of helping prospects generate buzz with college coaches.
Up next in the LakePoint Hoops Class of 2021 Spotlight Series…
Ryan Mutombo
Position: Center
Height: 6’11”
High School: Lovett School
Travel Team: Team Forrest
Scholarship Offers: NC A&T, Tennessee State, Clemson, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Stanford, Florida State, Florida, Wake Forest, Texas A&M, Appalachian State, Richmond, Georgetown, Georgia Tech, Indiana State
Scouting Report: One of the hottest big men in the country, Mutombo has added eight high major offers since February, and we don’t expect to see that trend stop. With elite level size, exceptional defensive and rim protecting ability, and a rapidly developing offensive skill set, he has rightfully risen through the national rankings in 2020. His height and length allow him to be a very sound shot blocker with great timing, and he does a great job of not biting on fakes and being able to affect shots while nearly staying grounded. He also has big, soft hands that allow him to keep the ball in play after blocking shots. On the offensive end, he has good fundamentals and footwork, soft touch around the rim, and a good hook shot over his left shoulder. As he continues to develop his game as well as develop physically, he will be a rally nice impact player who can produce at a high level.
